“Tell me about your activities in a typical day at your current job as an office supervisor.”

“I’m interested in learning more about your billing, receiving, and paying responsibilities. Give me one example to illustrate each of these areas.”

“Tell me about a particularly difficult collection you had to make by direct contact.”

“Describe a time when the payroll was delayed; what did you do?”

“Tell me about another department with which you maintain a steady flow of financial information and the nature of that information.”

“Describe the contents of the most recent financial report you prepared.”

“May I safely assume from what you have told me that the bulk of your work is in billing and receiving?”

“Am I also to understand that you have not had any experience in direct contact collections?”

“What else should I know about you in relation to your application for this job?”

Regardless of the outcome, the applicant should feel that she had an opportunity to present her qualifications and will be judged on her abilities in relation to the job requirements. The interviewer, too, can end knowing he’s asked enough relevant questions to make a preliminary decision either to reject the applicant or continue with a more comprehensive job-specific interview.
